National Report on Schooling in Australia

The annual National Report on Schooling in Australia is published by ACARA on behalf of Australian education ministers.

The most recent report, the National Report on Schooling in Australia 2019, is available here.

The report highlights progress made towards the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (PDF 955 kb), summarising national initiatives and achievements in eight interrelated areas. It also reports on nationally agreed key performance measures for student participation, achievement, and attainment and provides statistics on school and staff numbers, student enrolments and school funding.

Future reports (2020 and beyond) will report on progress towards the Education Goals for Young Australians and commitments to action expressed in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration.

The National Report on Schooling in Australia data portal

The National Report on Schooling in Australia data portal, which complements the national report on schooling, is updated with the most recent data available.

The data portal gives interactive access to a wide range of data on Australian schooling, including general statistics on enrolments and funding, and data on the agreed KPMs. In most cases, the portal allows readers to view and download data at the national level, but also by state and territory, by school sector, by calendar year and by other breakdowns such as gender and Indigenous status.
